Netflix for classic masterpieces and rare movies
There are millions of movies on dusty shelves, often too old to be remembered. These classic movies or niche works of art will never be watched again unless they become available online. Building a static online movie library that can be consulted worldwide is difficult.
- There is too little central knowledge about the titles to build up a collection.
- Converting all kinds of formats (e.g. celluloid) to one digital standard in advance is too expensive.
- The rights holders do not grant rights of use if they are not sure of ROI
However, there are a lot of movies that are unavailable and that I would like to see again. Some of them I would definitely like to show to my friends, acquaintances and family. Aren't there millions of movie lovers who would like to see that one movie again?
A central database/app of movies, interactively compiled by members. A movie is only converted to streaming if there is sufficient demand to perform this service. A quota of requests will be set for each movie. This quota must be able to cover at least the costs of converting a movie.
A member only pays for a chosen movie when 'enough seats have been booked in the online cinema'.
A title is only added if the producer/distributor/owner is insufficiently interested in exploiting the film himself and if the demand from members is large enough to pay for the conversion to streaming. The big studios and rights holders don't have to worry about losing a cash cow; they'd better be happy to cash in on their unprofitable collection.
